Question 42 – How big the fleet?

By the end of 1861, how many warships were on active duty in the US navy, and approximately how many were under construction?

hoosier June 4, 2011 at 9:10 pm: More than 260 were on duty and another 100 were under construction.
fortfisher64 June 4, 2011 at 11:19 pm: I believe that the Federal Navy had about 65 ships on active duty, but I am not too sure abou the number of ships under construction at the time of the war.
