The vessel’s name was H. L. Hunley.
It sank with its crew twice before sinking the USS Housatonic in 1864. It sank with its crew for the third and last time shortly thereafter.
The name of this famous Confederate submarine was the CSS H.L. Hunley, built in New Orleans in hopes of destroying the Federal blockade. The submarine sank two times before its final time on February 17, 1864. The second time she sank, she went down with her designer, Horace L Hunley.
The CSS Hunley sank with all hands twice before its historic sinking of the USS Housitonic in December 1864. The Hunley sank for the third and final time that historic night.
It was the CSS H.L. Hunley. It sank twice before sinking the USS Housatonic after which it sank for the third and final time.
